Where stories and crafts meet
In a world where products can come from anywhere, in Maastricht we like to preserve the local story. It is precisely that local - the people, makers, craftsmanship, history - that makes who we are as a city. Maastricht has traditionally been a city of makers. From bakers and brewers to ceramists, artists and designers; for generations, they have shaped the city's character. And still do! The Maastricht Store gives contemporary makers and stage and makes local stories tangible.
Circle of Connection -
“In the Maastricht Store, we don’t sell products, we sell stories and pride,” says Jean-Pierre Maas. “Pride in who we are, in what we make, and in the story we tell together.” In the shop in the Dinghuis and in the webshop, we make local makers visible and bring their products literally and figuratively to the heart of the city. The range is carefully curated, ranging from tableware to cheese, from coffee to clothing. “Together with artists, designers and producers, we create space for the stories of Maastricht: its culture, history and identity. This gives rise to a circle of connection: makers bring their products into the city, the city passes on their stories, and together they keep local craftsmanship alive.”
Fair & local
Consider products such as the scent of Maastricht in summer: local lime blossom from Buitenplaats Vaeshartelt, captured in a soap. Ceramics made of clay from Limburg soil. Wine from the hills around the city. Biscuits according to centuries-old family recipes and chocolate with dialect words. A new initiative that reinforces this ambition is the cooperation with the Regional Food System Limburg (RVS-LB). A provincial network in which farmers, producers, catering industry work together to put sustainable food from their own soil on the map. Products with the quality mark Limburgse Smaakzegel, honest and local.
" In the Maastricht Store, we do not sell products, but stories and pride. "

Passing on - the city’s story
In the Maastricht Store, the story of the city is passed on, from creator to visitor, from generation to generation. In this way, Maastricht strengthens its image as a city of craft, creativity and collaboration. Every year we welcome over 200,000 visitors: residents, tourists and day-trippers who experience the local identity of the region here. More than 50 local makers and producers are given a stage to show their work and share their stories. "We want to be a place for cross-pollination and cooperation between makers, producers and cultural partners. The visibility of regional craftsmanship grows and makers see their network and market expand. Every purchase contributes to the local economy as well as to strengthening the city's cultural identity," Jean-Pierre concludes.
