Meet intern Amber Schepers
Our intern Amber (21) is in the third year of her Communication studies at Fontys Hogeschool in Tilburg. Since the end of August, she has been doing a six-month internship at Maastricht Marketing as an Events and Campaigns intern. She is happy to share her experiences with you in this interview.
Why did you apply to Maastricht Marketing?
"I am from Maastricht myself, but live in Tilburg for my studies. I was keen to do my internship in Maastricht. When I came across the vacancy on LinkedIn, I immediately got excited. Not only is it an internship in Maastricht, but also one that revolves around Maastricht. I thought it would be nice to learn more about my home city and make new connections here. I also heard nice things about the organisation from outside, so that only made the choice easier.
Can you describe a day at Maastricht Marketing?
"Every morning we start with a day start. We then all put our heads together to ask some questions and get the day off to a good start together. Then we move on to our own work. It could be that you start working on a project, you have a meeting or you spontaneously get busy with something else. You do this until around 12:30, because then we have lunch together. We discuss how the weekend was or what fun plans we have for the evening. In the afternoon, you get back to your own work. Before you know it, it's already 5pm!"
How would you describe your work?
"As an Events and Campaign intern, my duties include managing the Uitagenda. This means I look at what's on in Maastricht, find information about it and put it online on the website. I also organise press trips, which I really enjoy! I also helped organise the opening of the Maastricht Store, helped set up a content calendar for the Maastricht Store, attended various meetings with external parties and wrote blogs. In short, a very varied set of tasks where no two days are the same.
What did you learn about the organisation?
"I like the fact that this organisation has the best interests of Maastricht, its residents, its entrepreneurs, its cultural institutions and its businesses at heart. I also find it interesting to see which other organisations and freelancers are involved in what the organisation does and how it works together towards a goal. By working together, very beautiful things can be achieved. This I find inspiring to see."
How did you experience your time during the internship?
"When I arrived at my internship on the first day, I was immediately received super sweetly by the colleagues. Slowly, I got to know everyone one by one, during nice introductory meetings. You can always ask questions in this team and you will be helped well. Even outside the Marketing and Communications team, everyone is very nice, helpful and there is a good atmosphere. I also really enjoy getting to know Maastricht from a different angle through my work. As a Maastricht resident, I thought I knew a lot, but I really discovered some beautiful spots in the city.
If you want to get to know Maastricht from a different angle, get a good experience in work life and join a fun team, you're definitely in the right place!"
